Breast
augmentation enhances body shape, balances breast irregularities, and
improves a woman's body contour. The results can successfully alter the
appearance of a woman's body, helping her to feel more self-confident.
Breast augmentation can successfully
improve a woman's appearance and self-confidence for any number of
reasons, including:
- Enhancing
the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her
breast size is too small.
- Balancing a
difference in breast size.
Currently, saline filled implants are FDA
approved for breast augmentation. We use the newest implants, including
anatomic-shaped implants, based on a careful evaluation of our patient's
needs and desires. The implants are typically placed behind the muscle
of the chest for a smooth and more natural feel.
Our board-certified plastic surgeons use
a variety of approaches to safely place the implants in the best
possible position. Some of our patients have small incisions in the
natural crease under the breast, and others have the implants placed
through a small incision in the armpit. The most recently developed
approach, transumbilical or placement through a small incision just
above the belly button, is another option. The newest computer imaging
technology can be used to help illustrate the potential changes in your
look.
The surgery is performed at the Institute
of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine at Northern Westchester Hospital, a
state-of-the-art facility approved by the Joint commission for the
Accreditation of Hospital Organizations. A superb staff of
board-certified anesthesiologists provides anesthesia. Services range
from the latest twilight sedation techniques to make you comfortable
while local anesthesia is used, to general anesthesia if that is your
preference. Patients may go home the day of surgery.
Patients feel tired and sore for a few
days following surgery, but are up and about in 24 to 48 hours. Most of
the discomfort is controlled by prescribed medications. Sutures are
removed a week after surgery, and the swelling in the breasts typically
resolves in three to six weeks.
For many women, the results of breast
augmentation can be a satisfying, even exhilarating experience, as they
come to appreciate their fuller appearance.
