Do people ask if you're tired even when
you are well rested? As we age, our eyelid stretches, producing excess,
drooping skin. The muscles weaken and fat accumulates, producing puffy
bags below the eyes. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and
puffy bags below your eyes, leaving a younger, more rested appearance.
Fat, excess skin and muscle may be removed during the procedure, and
fine sutures make the incisions almost invisible.
To minimize scarring, the approach
follows the natural creases of the upper and lower lids. The excess skin
is removed, muscular laxity is corrected, and the fat is sculpted. You
will be able to recover at home, with follow-up visits at three and five
days following surgery to remove all sutures.
Younger patients with more skin
elasticity in the lower lids, and those individuals who seem born with
"congenital" bags under the eyes, may benefit from a
transconjunctival approach to the lower lids, in essence working from
the inside out, and leaving no visible scar at all. The laser
resurfacing techniques can them be utilized around the lids, removing
wrinkles and "crow's feet" lines around the eyes.
The surgery is performed at the Institute
of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine at Northern Westchester Hospital, a
state-of-the-art facility approved by the Joint commission for the
Accreditation of Hospital Organizations. A superb staff of
board-certified anesthesiologists provides anesthesia. Services range
from the latest twilight sedation techniques to make you comfortable
while local anesthesia is used, to general anesthesia if that is your
preference. Either way, one is assured a safe, comfortable surgical
experience.
Eyelid surgery can be done alone, or in
conjunction with other facial rejuvenative procedures, including facelift
and brow
lift. Recuperation is usually about one week to ten days. By then,
depending on your rate of healing, you'll probably be able to wear
makeup to hide the bruising that remains. As the scars fade with time,
you'll be left with upper lids that no longer droop and skin under the
eyes that is smooth and firm.
